“Heaven knows where I'll end up -- but it's a safe bet that I'll never be at the top of anything! Nor do I particularly care to be.” H.P. Lovecraft

  • Age: 17
  • Hometown: Tenants Harbor
  • Prior school system: St. George Elementary School
  • Interests: I have a variety of interests. I love many works of literature with my favorite author being H.P. Lovecraft, a writer of many cosmic-horror short stories that were published in the early 20th century. Beyond that I have a huge obsession with old Norse mythology and I even host a radio show on WRFR titled “Thor on Thursdays” (on Thursdays at 4-5pm). In terms of film, I'm a huge horror movie nerd.
  • After graduation: College. For exactly what, I'm not sure yet, though I do have an interest in psychology and writing.
  • What I like about Watershed: I love the sense of community that I get from just being there. We're all equals who work to help each other for the better of the community. I wouldn't say we're perfect, we have our problems every now and then, but the ability of the school to deal with these problems quickly and completely certainly makes up for that.
  • Favorite courses: English with Richard Grant, Biology with Phil Gerard, and I loved doing trigonometry during the later part of Geometry with Sherry Fraser
  • Instruments: I used to play violin and trombone, still not sure if I'll ever pick them up again. For the time being I guess I'll just stick to smashing rocks together.
  • Unique opportunities experienced through Watershed: The trip to Quebec for Winter Carnival is quite an experience and I love the community activities such as our hike through the St. George River watershed and our beginning of year canoe trip.
  • Favorite Food: Poutine (For the uninformed it is french fries topped with gravy and cheese curd, a classic French-Canadian dish.)

What I like about Watershed: that the teachers actually enjoy sharing their vast expansive knowledge, the students are there to learn, and aren't afraid to express themselves.

Favorite courses: Creative Writing & Western Civilizations

Instruments: A tiny tiny bit of piano and a whole lot of voice.

Unique Opportunities: Winter Carnival in Quebec! Project week, and (of course) the school itself.

Nathan Hillman

Brenda Reddy
  • Age: 15
  • Prior School systems: Monroe Elementary School, Ashwood Waldorf School, homeschooling
  • Interests: Ultimate frisbee, composing, meteorology, astronomy, thinking way to much about things, eating during class, hugs, Twizzlers, etc.
  • After Graduation: I will probably explore a science or math school, but seeing as I haven't thought about this much yet, I may have a sudden change of heart and decide to do something entirely different.
  • What I like about Watershed: I love the great teachers that actually interact with the students in classes, unlike some other schools I have been to. I also like the freedom of having electives (for language, physical activity, and art), so that makes my experience here more enjoyable because I can pick some of my classes. The students here have a say as well as the teachers in what happens, and with that privilege, our learning experience can work a lot better.
  • One of the awesome things that we do here is that we have amazing trips scattered throughout the school year to break it up. At the beginning of the year, we go down the St. George's River by canoe, and mid-winter, we drive up to Quebec City for the Winter Carnival, both of which are supah-dupah trips!
  • Favorite courses: Dance, ISO, French, Physics, Lunch (does that qualify?)
  • Instruments: (previously violin), viola, piano, organ, recorder, flute
  • Unique opportunities experienced though Watershed: The most unique thing about Watershed to me is that, being as small as we are, we each get a higher percentage of our teachers' attention, we can actually create a relationship with the teachers, and we can also bond with each other as students. This is really important to me since I have never had really good school friends before. Watershed has created the opportunity for me to connect with other Watershed people, and it's a nice feeling.
  • Shoe size: 12.003 (to accommodate any sudden toenail growth)
  • Favorite drink: orange juice, orange juice, root beer um.........and orange juice

Brenda Reddy

Brenda Reddy
  • Age: 15
  • Prior School System: Ashwood Waldorf School, RDMS
  • Interests: Dressage, my horse, guitar, a whole lot of music, my friends, Watershed, life.
  • After Graduation: So soon? I still have I while to figure that out. However, I would like to take a year off to see how I fit in the world of Dressage and horses, and to see the world. College somewhere . . . I want to be a psychologist for at-risk teens.
  • What I like about Watershed: The people. That’s really what watershed depends on. If it wasn’t for the great kids and the great teachers, we would have such a school. Everybody that’s here wants to be here, they know they can leave anytime. The teachers are happy teaching, and the students are happy being taught. The students are excited to be here, and we aren’t all cookie-cutter teenagers. We’re all so diverse. There is so much dedication to the school from everybody. And we have a lot of fun.
  • Favorite courses: Where to start! They’re all amazing.
  • Instruments: Guitar. Lots and lots of it. My voice. A little of it.
  • Unique opportunities experienced though Watershed: I would say every day spent at Watershed is unique. It’s really different from a public school. The canoe trip and the Quebec trip were very unique, but again, because of the people. I look forward to what next year and the new group of people coming in will add.
  • Odd-ball category: Come check out our school!
